The Professional Quadrant is easy enough to understand when one thinks about education and career goals. Most of us are exposed to the benefits of higher education and even if we decide not to pursue it, we know it requires a lot of energy and hard work to actually achieve success in this area. As we sit in the Professional Quadrant today, however, I want you to think about the things you do which enhance your basic knowledge of the world around you.
The Pursuit of Knowledge is included in this quadrant specifically to nudge us to branch out of our comfort zones or our focus zones (career, education, finances). Spend some time learning or honing a new craft. Listen or read books or other information about a subject matter that is unrelated to your career choice.
For me, I began listening to Ted Talks about digestion and healing through gut health. I just plug in my aux cord on the way to work, hit play on links that I’ve saved, and listen. It has been enlightening to listen to interesting information just for the basic pursuit of knowledge. No test grades or employment promotions are dependent upon the new information. I can use it or move on and that is enough to enhance my levels of accountability in the Professional Quadrant.
So, generate a list of things you can do to work on the subset of this Quadrant and see what benefits you have after doing them for three months. If you already do this, share with the group what you do for the basic pursuit of knowledge.
